The honorary consul, who visited Sakuragaoka elementary school to thank the contributors, said that the school’s principal had told her that their Majesties had provided much encouragement and inspiration for many of the students, which was visible even today. Each student also sent a handwritten message to their Majesties.

She added that the donation is also a “thank you so much” from the Japanese people for the royal visit to the island state last year, and for His Majesty the King’s “encouragement”, during a speech to the Japanese parliament.

The donators included officials from the Japanese foreign affairs ministry, the honorary consul of Bhutan in Osaka, the representative director of the Toyo System company ltd of Fukushima, the representative director of Aquas corporation, the Japan-Kingdom of Bhutan parliamentary friendship league, and from the office of the honorary consulate general of Bhutan in Tokyo.
